Perseverance (August)

Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain.

In traveling through life’s journey, we have to pass through the small pebbles in life called troubles. A person with perseverance may get weary, worn down, and even in the verge of giving up. But the person remembers the purpose and receives a burst of inner strength that comes from the pit of the stomach and boils over to the surface for another round of stamina to push further. Your whole being refocuses itself and doesn’t allow the distractions of life to get your attention. He/she is focused on the one thing they’re aiming for, until it is reached.

How do we become a people of perseverance?

Romans 5:3-4 (NAS)

3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope…

Perseverance – steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

In Genesis 32:24-31, scripture goes into detail as Jacob and an angel wrestle until daybreak. They struggle through the fight. Scripture says in Genesis 32:25 (AMP), “And when [the Man] saw that He did not prevail against [Jacob], He touched the hollow of his thigh; and Jacob’s thigh was put out of joint as he wrestled with Him.”

As to say, “Lets add a little more pressure to your troubles.” But does Jacob give up? Jacob is holding on and doesn’t let him go. To the point that the angel says, “Let me go.” Jacob persisted all night with him; probably hanging on as tight as he could using all of his strength. Did he think of quitting or do you think he wondered if he would win this wrestling match? Whatever was going through his mind, he was determined that he would be persistent and continue through it no matter what.

Continue through the path the Lord has destined for you. When you believe you have the right to give up, but you hang on because the Lord has told you otherwise; that’s perseverance.

When everyone else says to give up, but you say, “Just a little while longer. I can’t give up until the Lord says. If God isn’t giving up, I can’t give up.”; that’s perseverance.

When you cry silently through the night, asking the Lord the why, but can get up with another dose of strength through Christ in the morning; that’s perseverance.

When all seems lost, but there’s something inside of you that’s not ready to give up yet; that’s perseverance.

You have to act in order for God to move. If that fire is still burning in you and the Lord is asking you to continue and not faint, persevere until you reach the end, look back, and see the mountain that’s behind you.
